The elections in India in 2018 include the eight state legislative assembly elections. This years elections are considered critical for the ruling NDA alliance. With national parliament elections scheduled for 2019, the assembly elections this year are of great significance. Large states like Karnataka, Rajastan and Madhya Pradesh are among the states getting lined up for elections during the year. Recently concluded Gujarat elections gave mixed results with ruling party BJP retaining power with a reduction in number of seats. These elections gather greater significance on account of its long term impact in breaking the current deadlock in the upper house of the Indian parliament where NDA alliance is short of clear majority.
